- Support the British Humanist Association in matters concerning Defence.
- Conduct academic study into non-religious spirituality in the Armed Forces.
- Contribute a ‘Spiritual Point’ in the MOD monthly journal Defence Focus.
- Support a case against religious discrimination in the Senior Service.
- Brief the Joint Equality and Diversity Training Centre at the Defence Academy on Humanism and ‘no god’ belief.
- Contribute to a pluralist Remembrance Parade in Iraq.
- Contribute to public debate on belief in the Armed forces.
UKAFHA Objectives
- Battle discrimination against the non-religious and champion freedom of belief for all.
- Pursue formal recognition with the Ministry of Defence.
- Agree the appointment of an honorary Humanist Chaplain to the Armed Forces.
- Encourage the British Humanist Association to develop a language of ‘chaplaincy’ and ‘pastoral care’.
- Make Remembrance a pluralist societal ceremony incorporating those of all religions or beliefs and none.
- Conduct positive engagement, not adversarial challenge.
